Efforts of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Increasing Motivation to Learn PAI

Abstract
PAI teachers have a big influence on the development of students’ religious spirit, including how PAI teachers’ pay attention to students in educating, teaching and evaluating both in delivering material in class and in carrying out students’ daily activities at school. PAI teachers use many methods to motivate students to always practice the teachings of Islam. Based on this, researcher’s conducted research at Nurul Madinah Islamic Middle Shool. The objectives of this research are: (1) To describe the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in increasing students’ PAI learning motivation at Nurul Madinah Islamic Middle School. (2) to describe Islamic religios education teachers in overcoming obstacles and solutions in building PAI learning motivation for Nurul Madinah Islamic Middle School students. To achieve this goal, this researcher used a qualitative type of research. Data collection techniques were carried out through: interviews, observations and documentation. Furthermore, data analysis techniques use: data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The research results and conclusions show that, (1) The efforts made by PAI teachers, namely: (a) in teaching and learning activities, include: making students like PAI learning, giving advice, directing students’ behavior, setting a good example, and providing supervisions. (b) in religious extracurricular activities, including: Islamic da’wah bodies, Islamic studies, reading and writing the Koran. (c) in routine school activities, including: congregational midday and noon prayers, teachers’ morning greeting at the gate, Friday, charity work, commemoration of Islamic holidays. (2) obstacles faced by PAI teachers in increasing motivation to learn PAI, including: lack of student’s interest in PAI learning, religious extracurricular teachers from outside who are not native teachers at Nurul Madinah Islamic Middle School, the child’s environments and previous school background, the environment around the school or the community. Solutions to overcome this obstacle include: Making students like learning PAI, (trying to make PAI learning a favorite subject), getting religious extracurricular educators from native school teachers, implementing attendance in every activity, making students happy at school.
